  • Ye are bought with a price

"For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

    I Corinthians 6:20

We, according to the scriptures, have no right to dictate to the Lord what we will and will not do in our lives. James 4:15 says, "For we ought to say, if the Lord will, we shall live, and do this or that." In our text verse we see that we do not belong to ourselves but we have been bought with the price of the Blood of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary. All of these things we learn from the Good Word of God.

God has given us His Word for several reasons. It is amazing the number of things that are dealt with in the scriptures. I am convinced that every answer to every question that could possibly arise in the mind of man is answered in the Word of God. I do not find in the scriptures any place where God tries to defend or explain Himself. He just expects us to believe that He is and that is a fact. He is.

There are, however, some very pointed things about the scriptures. We find in II Timothy 3:16-17 several statements about the Word of God.

    1. All scripture is given by the inspiration of God.

    2. It is profitable for - doctrine, reproof, correction.

    3. For instruction in righteousness - that the man of God may be perfect and thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Now we see that God has made provision through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to purchase us with His Blood and then give us His Word as to how we are to live and serve Him in our lives. He has also given us His promise in His Word that He will come and take us home to be with Him for all eternity some day.

Now case and point. Since God has made such great promises and provision for us, why do we have so much trouble obeying Him and enjoying the blessings that he has for us? I think that if we would consider the time we spend in His Word and in His church and prayer and service, it would not be very hard to figure out. We have slowly drifted away from the place that God wants us to be and we have forgotten that we are bought with a price and we have the answers to our problems in the Word of God. It would be good for us to take the time to reflect upon the great blessings that we have in Christ Jesus and the Good Word of God, remember from whence we came and where we are, and where we could have been.
