  • Diversions

    Matthew 6:33; Matthew 22:37

These two verses of scripture carry with them the idea that God is to be first and foremost in our lives. this is a true statement and is one of the keys to the blessings of God in the life of the believer. However, it is sometimes difficult for us to do because we are faced continually with diversions. A diversion is something that distracts us and takes our attention away from the important things and turns it to the less important. Satan is a master at providing diversions in the life of the Christian. He takes our attention from the things of God and puts it on trivial things.

It is easy for a Christian or a Church to get involved in some program or labor and come to realize that they have been diverted from their goal. We can never lose sight of our purpose here on earth; to put God first and foremost and bring glory to His name. We do that by witnessing and spreading the gospel.

We are faced with extremely serious difficulties on a daily basis; the temptation to compromise our Biblical stand or to yield to the world in some area of our lives. We do live in a difficult time. Adult and child alike are faced with trials of our faith every day of our lives. Thank God he did not leave us to fend for ourselves. We can trust Him to give us the strength and boldness to put Him first and foremost.

We need to be reminded that no matter what is happening in the world - wars, terrorist attacks, business failure, political upheaval, personal setbacks or whatever the case may be - we are to put God first. All of these things are diversions to take our attention away from our purpose in Christ Jesus.

Do not lose sight of the fact, my Christian friends, God is still on the throne and these diversions come as no surprise to Him. The Apostle Paul reminds us: "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14

God must have first place in our lives if we expect the blessing of God to be ours.
